Abstract :
The electric drive for transportation did not just happen, electricity has been the most efficient fuel in common use for over one hundred years. Batteries have always been the most practical way to supply electricity to a moving vehicle without the limitations of a trolley or hot rail. Driving range on battery power has been the main deterrent impeding the adoption of electric road vehicles. With the realization of the destruction of our livable environment by diesel and gasoline burning vehicles, development of power sources for electric vehicles became an immediate and mandatory mission. Fifty to sixty deaths a year are reported in the Los Angeles basin as being directly related to vehicle emissions. French officials report 200 to 300 deaths in Paris and Lyon related to emissions. Ten billion dollars a year has been the cost of pollution in the LA basin for over ten years. Some say clean air is too expensive; it seems as through dirty and deadly air is even more expensive. This paper will cover some answers to electric power supply for electric road vehicles
