Abstract :
An expert system has been developed for selecting reliable viscosity models and predicting viscosity values. The expert system combined symbolic reasoning with fast, efficient numerical computations. The symbolic reasoning was developed using a LISP-based expert system tool, Personal Consultant Plus (PC Plus). The numerical calculation routines were written in FORTRAN 77. The system was implemented on an IBM-compatible personal computer. The expert system uses heuristics to select an appropriate model. The system can choose from the models of D. E. Dean and L. I. Stiel (1965), J. F. Ely and H. J. M. Hanley (1981), and P. L. Cristensen and A. Fredenslund (1987). The viscosity models and the knowledge representation and organization are presented
