Abstract
An autonomous, multibeam, multifrequency acoustic backscatter suspended sediment profiler that builds on knowledge gained in deploying a shore-tethered version is discussed. This system allows direct measurement of sediment concentration profiles in the bottom 1 m of the ocean at a rate of 10 profiles/s, in bursts, over a 2-3-week deployment. Ancillary data such as flow velocity, temperature, and pressure are also being recorded
