The aim is to develop an optical system to characterize the variations in corneal birefringence in a rabbit model, both qualitatively and quantitatively, via the use of Mueller matrix theory. The system was characterized with a known birefringent material, namely a 1/4 wave plate, followed by in vitro studies on an excised rabbit eye
