Abstract :
This paper discusses the applications of static VAr compensators (SVC) to a large integrated steelmaking cogeneration facility to improve transient stability and voltage fluctuation problems. The suitable models and parameters of generators, exciters, governors, load and SVC are included to execute transient stability analysis. An external fault case is selected for transient stability simulation to examine the effectiveness of SVC on the load shedding scheme. Besides, the large induction motor starting problem in the isolation system and the voltage fluctuation problem produced by the operation of rolling mills are also included in this paper with and without considering the SVC installation
