Abstract :
A ground-based millimeter radiometer-scatterometer has been miniaturized as a portable instrument. This portable instrument is much smaller than ordinary ones, and can highly facilitate remote sensing measurements. The miniaturization methods for the radiometer-scatterometer system have been introduced and discussed in detail in this paper. The miniaturization is mainly composed of the design of the system mechanism and the design of the antenna subsystem. To obtain a compact system structure, the mechanism of the scatterometer is designed to be similar to that of the radiometer. The antenna subsystem is adapted to ground-based remote sensing. A special design has been used to miniaturize the antennas.
