Abstract :
Multi-Technology Operations System Interface (MTOSI) as an open interface has been proposed by TM-Forum in 2003. It not only supports the interactions between EMS-NMS like MTNM, also it generalizes the logic, and can be used for the communications between the other operations systems involved in the OSS. In this work, we first proposed the novel modular structured OSS functional architecture model aligned with the TMF NGOSS to cover all the required functionalities of an OSS. Then, by implementing the proposed OSS model on an experimental VoIP service scenario, we have shown that how using the MTOSI standard interface for the interactions between diverse operation systems involved in the OSS leads to a considerable improvement in the systems scalability and efficiency as compared to the traditional proprietary interfaces. Our evaluations on this scenario have proven that supporting the MTOSI standard by the modules included in a modular structured OSS not only leads to a considerable decrease in their integration costs, but it also enhances their reusability in a way that each of which can be replaced with a similar MTOSI support module with the minimum change required to be applied on the other modules involved in the OSS. Moreover, our experiments have shown that providing a Common Communications Vehicle (CCV) for the operation systems in the OSS will reduce the volume of communications between them, and this way it leads to a considerable improvement in the systems efficiency and throughput.
