Abstract
In this position paper, we propose an agent based multicast routing scheme for mobile ad hoc networks (MANET) that builds a backbone in the form of reliable ring. The reliability of links is modeled by probabilistic measure of link failures to create reliable links and thus create multicast paths using reliable ring formed by these reliable links. The reliable ring is constructed by an agency that finds the links among MANET nodes to form reliable path covering an area of maximum number of ad hoc nodes. Once the reliable ring is established, the agency identifies various multicast paths from source to destinations connecting through ring links. Recovery of link and node failures is performed locally using coordinated agents through knowledge base.
