Abstract
The performance of a small antenna close to a compact resonant ground plane is studied. First, the design of such ground plane is discussed. Next, a new small dipole integrated with a parasitic structure close to the ground plane is proposed. A simple model is presented to clarify how matching of the antenna is achieved. The gain of such system is twice that of a small dipole in free space, with a footprint of less than one twentieth of the free space wavelength.
