Abstract
In this paper, we present an analytic model for evaluating the delay, delay jitter and the packet loss probability in multi-hop ad hoc networks using the IEEE 802.11 distributed coordination function (DCF) as MAC protocol. By modeling each node as a discrete time G/G/1 queue, we derive the closed form expressions of the end-to-end delay, delay jitter and the packet loss probability for different circumstances. Simulation results show that our proposed model agrees quite well with the simulation results. By means of the model, our future aim is to improve the protocol to support the quality of service (QoS).
