Abstract
Abnormal prion protein found present in the brains of humans afflicted with new variant Creutzfeld-Jakob disease, accumulates as distinct patterns in different brain areas. This has important implications for quantifying patterns of abnormal prion protein. Here, statistical texture analysis was used to calculate local features relating to abnormal prion protein deposition in the molecular (n=10) and granular layer (n=10) of the cerebellum of a new variant Creutzfeld-Jakob disease case. In total, 14 features were calculated on each region of interest. The results presented show that certain statistical features have the ability to discriminate between the two regions studied
