Abstract
Shunt-connected active power filters (APF) consist of a PWM inverter that produces harmonic currents in phase opposition to those produced by a nonlinear load. A switching-ripple filter (SRF) is used to filter out the unavoidable high-frequency current components generated by the APF inverter. This paper analyzes various SRF design issues, the effect of SRF on the APF performance, size and cost. The size and cost of the SRF is mainly determined by the APF bandwidth. Simulation and experimental results are included to illustrate the feasibility of the proposed ideas.
