Abstract
The application of linear programming to the problem of designing an environmental observing network consisting of multiple sensor and platform systems in light of budget and other limitations is documented. A numerical model for the optimization of the network is described, and its strengths and limitations are discussed. A case study is described and evaluated. The value of the planner of the model and its output is assessed
