Abstract :
For a decade the UK effort has been directed at development of a closed-cycle, floating 10 MW OTEC plant making use of 5-MW power modules with electricity production the sole objective. A separate initiative has focused on a small 0.5 MW land-based design, with the object of utilizing cold, deep, nutrient-rich waters for aquaculture and for the production of potable water. For both projects island locations are preferred. Progress to date is reviewed
