  • Abstract
Fishing technology is important to enhance the competitiveness of Indonesian fishermen. Lack of research on the development of fishing equipment technology causes quantity stagnation. It also forces the fishermen to use hazardous equipment. Lobster is a commodity with superior characteristic and a high price. However, fishing is limited due to lack of equipment for fishing it. Paciran is one of the coastal areas in Java Sea that is rich on lobster. Nevertheless, during lobster season, the fishing equipment is limited to bubu and net which are not useful for fishing lobster. This research aimed to design new lobster fishing equipment, which is suitable for a small fishing boat. Design was performed using Quality Function Deployment (QFD) that would consider the needs of the fisherman. Function Analysis System Technique (FAST) was also used to develop the technological capability. Cost reduction was accomplished by employing the FAST method based on the highest costing component and using a value engineering approach. Influence of the equipment on the fishery industrial cluster performance was then predicted using causal loop diagram. It is aimed to identify an influence index. This research produced lobster fishing equipment that fulfills the main criteria of passive fishing equipment with specific capability for lobster fishing.
