Overview of content protection technology for intelligent attached devices

We previously developed standards for a new type of removable storage device called an "information versatile disk for removable usage" (iVDR^trade1) as members of the iVDR hard disk drive consortium. The standards cover both the physical and application aspects, but not cover content protection. We have now developed architecture to protect the content recorded on the removable storage device. The architecture focuses on the transfer of the content key and the usage rules. It is pertinent for video recording and playback, and enables time-shift playback of video content without the storage device having to establish distinct secure connections for the import devices and export device
