Abstract
Optimal location of compensating fibres in dispersion-managed WDM soliton transmission is determined numerically. The configuration is tested experimentally with 8×10 Gbit/s signals, 1480 nm pumping and in-line DMux/Mux, yielding good agreement with prediction. The reduction of compensator loss should permit transmission beyond 9 Mm
