Abstract :
A large scale underwriting expert system has been successfully deployed at Continental Canada. Following three years of development, the company is publicly claiming impressive business results from this effort. The technology has been fully integrated with the existing technical staff and resources. A number of problems surfaced along the way. The authors report on the combination of tools and techniques that allowed them to solve the technical difficulties. They also indicate how they handled the large number of complications at the management level
