Abstract
The authors discuss TCP-Express, an auxiliary protocol which solves the HiPPI (High-Performance Parallel Interface) TCP/IP throughput problems in the ECF (enhanced clustered Fortran) environment in a simple and cost-effective manner. TCP-Express has been implemented on IBM System 390 mainframes running AIX/370. TCP-Express is used for passing large common blocks between two remote tasks during SCHEDULE processing. TCP-Express is a cost-effective and controlled way of improving transmission throughput with the proven technology and code. It avoids the complex hardware and software development that other approaches are subject to. TCP-Express provides a simple way of exploiting advanced underlying hardware features, such as large memory and fast and reliable link, for fast transmission of large data between two remote user spaces. As the memory gets larger and the link becomes faster, the throughput by TCP-Express becomes higher. TCP-Express is fully scalable per hardware evolution and improvements
