Abstract :
A lot of research is ongoing throughout the world aiming to optimize communications in one of the special types of ad hoc networks well know as sensor networks. The utility and application domain of sensor networks ranges from commercial, public safety applications and military sector to be the most important ones. Some important challenges to various routing algorithms employed in such networks are due to the unpredictable size of the network and its dynamic topology that is quite dynamic in nature. The present paper offers an analysis of the variation of the average jitter that has an impact on the MAC performance for different simulation times of the experimental setup considering one of the most widely used reactive routing protocol in wireless sensor networks known as AODV (Adhoc On Demand Distance Vector) routing protocol. The wireless sensor network application under consideration for the experimental is the battle field monitoring wireless sensor network. The sensor network simulator architecture used is for the battle field monitoring application of wireless sensor networks. The application provides support for sensing capabilities within in the network nodes called as GS (Ground Sensors). The mobile nodes have responsibility to collect data from battle field and forward it to the ground station via mobile UV(Unmanned Vehicles). The performance of the MAC Layer varies with the different average jitter values for different simulation times in the network.
