Abstract
A method, which can be used in wireless ATM as a multiple access control (MAC) protocol, based on the user´s demand to improve the performance of voice services is proposed. After an analysis of packet reservation multiple access (PRMA), the new method (VP-PRMA), using variable contend probability according to the actual facts, is presented. In VP-PRMA, communicating users are distinguished from new users and the system can transact with them in different ways, which is always neglected. According to the simulation, the method improves the voice performance by reducing the probability of packet dropping and the channel utilization increases
