Abstract :
The use of Bluetooth (BT) devices is on increase. The conventional LAN techniques for networking do not suit the BT environment. We discuss the suitability of the wireless personal area network (WPAN) for BT devices. At the present time, users are surrounded by numerous portable devices, such as personal digital assistants (PDA), personal computers, digital camera, CD/VCD/MP3/DVD player, mobile phone, pager and microwave oven, in the home or office environment. The personal area network (PAN) is a network which connects these devices one to another without the need of cable. Information, which consists of data as well as voice, may flow seamlessly between these Bluetooth devices. A number of technologies exist to support these kind of wireless services in PAN, like Home RF, Infrared IrDa and Bluetooth. Due to its inherent merits, Bluetooth superseded its parallel counterparts. Bluetooth and WPAN technologies are reviewed as the basis for a proposal to develop a mathematical model for incorporating an ADPCM type of modulation system instead of the conventional PCM system and observe the performance improvement.
