Abstract :
The authors propose a method for obtaining the canonical design form of two-dimensional digital filters (2DDFs). By using this method, design can be directly obtained from the coefficients of the transfer functions of 2DDFs without performing canonical decomposition of the state equations and solving nonlinear equations. The possibility of reducing the design dimension in the canonical design is considered, and conditions imposed on the transfer functions of 2DDFs for the reduction are obtained. Moreover, a class of transfer functions of 2DDFs that can be designed with a minimal dimension with respect to both of two variables is presented
