Abstract :
Reduced-state Viterbi decoding with embedded decision feedback (RVEDF) is a novel signal-processing technique for reliably estimating the transmitted data sequence in the receiver of data communication systems. The authors present the implementation for an input signal consisting of a binary dicode partial-response signal corrupted by postcursor intersymbol interference and noise. A simplified version of the decoding algorithm is developed by the application of the difference-metric concept. A digital hardware implementation is given that is capable of operating at high signaling rates
