Abstract :
An optimisation model for cellular planning by establishing the radius of micro-cells, and the border of their region in a macro-cell structure is presented. It uses a criterion based on the minimisation of the number of base stations for a specified maximum blocking probability. In a first stage, approximate analytic traffic density functions, obtained from real data for the city of Lisbon, are used. After explaining the structure of the mixed micro-/macro-cells regions, the evaluation of the average blocking probability is discussed. An application example of the optimisation algorithm is presented
