  • Abstract
A three dimensional (3-D) signal space employing state of polarization as the modulating parameter for wireless communication is demonstrated in this paper. A novel method for generating the 4 spherically symmetric constellation points in a 3-D signal space is presented and an optimal receiver structure based on an unconventional basis set is used to derive the error performance in closed form. Analysis is further extended to a constellation with 8 points and its performance compared with an 8PSK system.
