Abstract :
Real-time transmission line monitoring technology can allow the utility companies to maintain all the requirements of reliable and safe operation of transmission lines. The tension-based monitoring system provides valuable data that can also be used for identifying line behavior under different climatic conditions. To develop short-term forecasts for thermal ratings of transmission line it is necessary to identify, track, and fit the stochastic and bursty behavior of the line capability to a statistical model. The model provides tools that utility companies can use to make safe, informed and economically justified operational decisions under normal and contingency conditions
