Abstract
Overlaid network architecture takes advantage of different cell sizes: micro- or pico-cells can transmit a large data rate and support more users while the macro-cells accommodate faster moving terminals without much signal traffic load induced. In this paper, a handoff control scheme for a hierarchical structured network is validated and evaluated. As a decision criterion, velocity threshold V0 is determined to optimize system performance. The optimal velocity threshold controls to assign the available channels to the mobile stations with various mobility. The optimum velocity selection is studied and hypothetical systems are simulated. Also, overflow traffic are considered and the results for with and without overflow are compared in terms of grade of service (GOS)
