Abstract :
Multipath fading in inter-vehicle communication (IVC) radio links is severe and has to be taken into account. We discuss the system performance of DS/SS (direct sequence/spread spectrum) inter-vehicle communication and ranging system under aa Rician fading channel. The communication to the vehicles is done by using spread spectrum communication, and it realizes communications in both directions. The method of ranging the distance between vehicles is realized by clocking the round-trip time of a packet with a matched filter (MF) and we evaluate the system performance from computer simulation, such as the packet error probability (PER), packet delay, ranging error, and bit error rate (BER). From the performance, it is confirmed that even under a Rician fading channel our system can keep the real time communication needed for IVC, and range the distance between vehicles precisely
