Abstract
Geometric Type-2 fuzzy sets allow us to model type-2 fuzzy sets using geometry providing significant improvement in speed of computation. This paper explores in detail how well the geometric approach models continuous type-2 fuzzy sets from an accuracy perspective. A new methodology is introduced for conducting the comparison. This methodology is used on some example sets and the performance of the geometric model is given. It shows that, in broad terms, geometric type-2 fuzzy sets are more accurate than the discrete equivalent.
