Message from panel co-chairs

COMSNETS has a long tradition of excellent and well-attended panel discussions from leaders in the industry and academia. This year, we continue this tradition with three thought-provoking panels on a broad range of topics in networking. We hope that these panels, each of which will be held on a different day of the main conference program, will be interesting to the attendees. The first panel, to be held on Thursday, January 5th, is titled “ICT for Energy Sustainability: How Computer Science Can Save The World.” This panel will focus on the emerging topic of systems and networking issues for energy systems and sustainability and will discuss new opportunities for designing sustainable systems of tomorrow. The second panel will be held on Friday, January 6th, and is titled “Behavior Analytics for Telecom Providers: Opportunities and Challenges”. The panel will focus on the mobile telecommunication networks and discuss problems and opportunities around real-time determination of mobile user behavior and activity. The final panel, to be held on Saturday January 7th, is titled “Hot or Not: How to choose research problems, avoid dead topics and lead from the frontier.” As the name suggests, this panel casts a broad lens on new and emerging research topics in networking and systems, with the panelists sharing their thoughts on how to do impactful research. All panels have been structured to provide multiple, compelling viewpoints on the topics in question, and will be highly interactive to enable significant audience participation. All panels include panelists from India and abroad, from theory and practice, and from academia and industry. We are grateful to all the panelists for agreeing to serve on these panels and look forward to energetic and engaging panel discussions.
