Abstract :
This paper demonstrates a novel method of compressing electrocardiogram (ECG) that uses a specially designed vector quantization (VQ) codebook. Codebook having different types of polynomials such as straight line, second order, fourth order and ECG segment approximated is generated and applied to the ECG of MIT-BIH database. The results show that a compression ratio of about 70 is achievable at a low PRD (percent of root-mean-square difference) of 2.10. The proposed method outperforms many recently published ones.
