Abstract
In a previous report (1988), C.A. Shiffman et al. examined the potential of the new high-temperature superconductors (HTSCs) as magnets for microwave tubes. In the present work the situation is reviewed in the light of recent developments. Some of the more negative developments indicate strategies very different from those previously considered may be necessary, but other developments strengthen the conjectures made at that time regarding the prospects for the major advances. Particular attention is given to evidence for the Josephson junction network as well as to evidence for ´strong´ currents.<>
