Abstract
The learning organization (LO) concept continues to be regarded as a key factor for success in organization theory texts, however managers need an effective instrument to assess learning organization competence and weaknesses. This paper reports a field test of the ASTD LO profile questionnaire, followed by survey of respondents to assess the utility of this LO profile questionnaire. Respondents feedback, and theory consideration, indicates several limitations, particularly concerning participation and empowerment assessment, in the ASTD LO profile questionnaire. A revised LO profiling instrument is proposed and tested. Respondents feedback indicates several advantages with the redesigned instrument such as more focus on participation and empowerment and fewer criticisms of statements in the instrument.
