Optical clock recovery, where optical clock pulses are synchronized to ultrahigh-speed optical signals are extracted for use in optical demultiplexers and repeaters, is one of the key techniques for achieving ultrahigh-speed optical time-division multiplexing (OTDM) systems. We present a mode-locked diode laser with an external-cavity configuration that is specially designed for optical clock extraction
