Abstract
Pilot-aided channel estimation methods in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems usually involve an interpolation technique to estimate the channel frequency response of non-pilot subcarriers. This paper presents a genetic algorithm (GA)-based pilot-aided channel estimation scheme without any interpolation techniques in OFDM systems. It is the unknown data signals search method estimating channel impulse response with both the searched data signals and the pilot signals. Although the simulation results showed that the proposed method was not superior to the conventional pilot-aided channel estimation method involving cubic-spline interpolation or linear interpolation with the considered pilot patterns, the proposed scheme is a novel idea and worthy of a further study.
