We measured morphology traits (shell length, shell height and shell width) and weight traits (body weight, fresh meat weight and foot weight) of 92 clams Solen strictus. Phenotypic correlations among measured traits were calculated. Path coefficients were calculated with morphology traits as independent variables and weight traits as dependent variables. Shell length was eliminated from the variables for its colinear with shell height and shell width. Effects of morphology traits on weight traits were also analyzed. The results showed that morphology traits were significantly correlated with weight traits (P<;0.01) with all the P-values above 0.94. The direct effects of shell height on body weight and foot weight (0.527, 0.522, respectively) were larger than those of shell width (0.466, 0.454, respectively). The effect of shell width on fresh meat weight (0.538) was lager than that of shell height (0.434). The stepwise regression analysis was conducted to construct regression models where shell height (SH) and shell width (SW) were independent variables and body weight (BW), fresh meat weight (FMW) and foot weight (FOW) were independent variables as follow: Ln(BW)=-2.768+0.261SH+0.252SW,(R2=0.958); Ln(FMW)=-2.892+0.283SH+0.212SW,(R2=0.917); Ln(FOW)=-4.026+0.268SH+0.251SW, (R2 =0.925). The present study provides theoretical evidence and perfect measure target for selective breeding of S. strictus.
