Abstract :
We give a full analysis of the temporal resolution for the measurements of THz pulses with a chirped probe beam. The dependence of the temporal resolution on the chirp rate and spectral bandwidth of the chirped optical probe beam, as well as the spectral resolution of the spectrometer will be discussed. We will prove that under the stationary phase approximation the measured signal is proportional to the input signal. The experimental setup is similar to the conventional free-space electro-optic sampling setup, except for the use of a grating pair for chirping and stretching the optical probe beam, and a grating-lens combination with a detector array for the measurement
