Abstract :
As part of a series of search and rescue experiments sponsored by Transport Canada, an investigation of human factors relating to electronic searches was conducted using a navigation/radar simulator system. Simulated search operations for weak radar targets partially obscured in a clutter field were carried out by experienced Canadian Coast Guard officers. The interrelated factors of fatigue and motivation and the `area of concentration´ within the detection envelope were examined
