Abstract :
Summary form only given. The Institute of Marine Science (IMS) at the University of Alaska has built a low-cost hardware/software CTD system (conductivity, temperature, depth) measurement to replace an aging Neil Brown CTD deck unit and 9 track tape drive. The new IMS CTD Deck System includes a commercial power supply, a small hardware package, and microcomputer software which provides enhanced features such as data acquisition concurrent with real-time computer screen plotting of the cast. The package demonstrates that a versatile, reliable, computer-based system can provide low-cost redundancy and serve most CTD data collection needs
