Abstract
This paper describes the evaluation method of VRLA battery deterioration in telecommunications power systems. The rectifier output voltage becomes lower than the rated float voltage of the battery during the test period, which is about 30% of the full-discharge time of the fresh and fully charged battery. Battery discharge time is estimated from the battery discharge voltage characteristics during this period. The degradation rate is determined by comparing the estimated battery discharge time and discharge time of a fresh and fully charged battery. In field tests, the accuracy of estimating battery deterioration was about 20%
