Abstract
An interdigitated coupler in which two pairs of strips are placed on both sides of a thin dielectric layer, connected to a main substrate, is theoretically and experimentally investigated. Frequency-dependent parameters of a 3 dB coupler are calculated as a function of thickness of the thin dielectric. An optimum thickness giving a very good matching and high directivity of the coupler, is revealed. Parasitic resonances, appearing in vicinity of 2× centre frequency of the coupler, strongly deteriorating coupler performance, are efficiently suppressed using an additional planar bonding. Measured coupler characteristics are also given
