Abstract :
Switching operations of power system elements (e.g. transmission lines, capacitor banks), which can occur at normal operating conditions or as a consequence of system disturbances, possibly lead to changes in power system behaviors. The focus of this paper is to develop an effective tool for studying the effect of switching operations on the system resonant behavior. In this paper, resonance mode analysis (RMA) is applied as a method for analyzing individual resonances in the modal coordinate system effectively. As a basis for performing resonance analysis with RMA under consideration of switching operations of power system elements, the modified system nodal admittance matrix, which is systematically obtained by using the fault matrix method without requiring grid topology manipulation, is used instead of the conventional system nodal admittance matrix. A calculation example is given at the end of this paper to demonstrate the practical application of the proposed methods.
