Abstract
The author shows that a hybrid electric vehicle based on brushless DC motor drive technology can make a significant contribution to conserving energy at a reasonable capital cost. Improved energy consumption is vital if the projected growth in vehicle ownership is to take place. The advantage of the hybrid solution is that two problems are solved for the price of one-less fuel consumption means less pollution. The author also details how the major problems that remain to be solved are ones of manufacturing technology at minimum cost rather than fundamental principles
