Abstract :
The harmonic domain is the most rigorous method to simulate the steady-state behaviour of power electronic devices and their interaction with the a.c. system and with each other. At the time of development the complexity of the algorithm and the limited presence of power electronics in the power grids detracted from its adoption by the industry. However with the increasing presence of renewable energy, electric railway systems as well as the impact of flexible ac and dc transmission systems are all contributing to the increased content of power electronics conditioning and are major sources of waveform distortion. In the light of this there has been a renewed interest in harmonic domain modelling.
