Abstract :
Whether purchasing a small part, a service or a major piece of equipment like a new or replacement generator, some form of specification will be necessary to define what is required. This paper is intended to stimulate ideas and discussion on the role and effectiveness of specifications as well as the process that creates them. The author focuses on a major purchase such as the purchase of a new generator, but the ideas and discussion are equally applicable to smaller components and services
