Abstract
The dynamic performance of a DC motor-water pump set driven by a photovoltaic array through a boost converter is analyzed. The mathematical model of the interconnected system is developed. The necessary computer algorithm is developed to analyze the system performance under different insolation level for pump load. The transient voltage, current, speed and motor output power are illustrated. It is shown that the DC motor drives supplied from a PV array has much smoother transient performance as compared to the conventional DC drive case. The performance of the drive obtained for direct connected motor (without boost converter) case and for with boost converter case are compared. It was concluded that the system containing a boost converter has overall superior performance
