Abstract :
Summary form only given. The Long Island Consortium for Interconnected Learning is multi-year, multi-faceted initiative funded by National Science Foundation (DUE9555401) to enhance instruction and learning in mathematically based disciplines. Interconnected learning in construction education is part of this on going initiative. Construction is an integrative process and thus construction education should be designed toward that end. The construction educators must cultivate students\´ ability to bridge boundaries of various courses taken at different departments. The activities going on in its second year of a four-year project are discussed. One of the main purposes of our project is to make a drastic change in the learning and teaching process by making the student more active and responsible for learning in the classroom. The paper focuses on the construction department\´s effort of this multidimensional project. It details how the department faculty members organized and interacted among themselves as well as with faculty members from the other departments. The paper touches some other similar activities going on in other remedial area from which construction department has traditionally recruited students. This paper also describes accomplishments so far in terms of student success, learning experience, teams involvement. It expands on the planned activities, "next step", and students\´ reactions.
