Abstract
As an adjunct in the treatment of wounds, topical Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT) is a common method of wound disposal and has been used in both civilian and military. NPWT instrument is a kind of new medical equipment made for NPWT. In order to improve the performance of the present NPWT devices, this study designed an intelligent NPWT instrument based on embedded system with ARM kernel. The new device can work with two different negative pressure sources (pump and clinical negative) and the vacuum level can be regulated by PWM control method with PID algorithm. In addition, this device has alarm function of leak, overflow and hematorrhea. The experimental and clinical result showed this intelligent NPWT instrument was effective and reliable.
