Abstract
This paper presents an analytical study based on natural variables abc model for a three phase mixed pole reluctance machine with ring coils on rotor poles. Steady-state voltage, power and torque equations are directly derived from such a model. Different modes of operation are then studied. Validation of the proposed model is verified by comparing simulation and experimental results. It was shown that such a type of motor can be run in both synchronous as well as asynchronous modes, thus yielding a wide speed range
